Hey stop what you’re doing! Before the day is out, help us wish our oldest daughter Evelyn a very Happy 3rd Birthday!!! She was born about 2 months after we decided to start roasting our own coffee!! She’s such a beautiful little girl! She loves her purse, hanging out with mommy, eating snacks with Daddy, and having “battles” with her brothers! Thats mama & daddys baby! She’s our future #Spelmanite Happy Birthday “Wee!”
I think 🤔 that I’m gonna need to back off of the heat on this coffee and bring it up slowly. When it starts browning, speed up the drum and crank it until first crack, drop the heat fast and snatch it outta there! It’s nice where it is at this point; nutty, classic Brazil 🇧🇷, but I believe there’s a sweetness there that we can pull with about 3 minutes longer, but not a second beyond that.
I love African proverbs... at 30+, I’ve heard my fair share of them and we as a family and company have tried to apply them to life. “Together” we have to define by our actions, for our future generations what that means. Together... so we’re at a super critical point in America’s history where the word together is being used in slogans and catch phrases. But in the same breath, people get off on being loners... no new friends... being the oddball or I’m so different or being an Outcast but stay wanting to collab, but shady as hell when they’re not included on some technicality type shxt.. so what the fxck is it gonna be? Tell us now, so we’ll know how to move around you. Dig?? Because whole time, mf’s got children to raise and communities to restore. Ain’t got time for the BS & contradiction from within. I prolly went far left, but the word “together” struck a nerve... #allskinfolkaintkinfolk
Gotta admit.. I was hyped to unbox this joint! Nothing special, I just realllly needed a new tamper. I appreciate it LUXHAUS.
Today wasn’t a very good day... growth feels and looks good when it first starts, and then it gets really bummy. I’ve been trying to shake today’s funk all day. Also I came to a few realizations about my up close support....I had to look away several times at a few things because of where TCE really is right now. I’m glad that I poured this drink though, because it just brought me back to center. Concentrate on what you can control. Every variable from dosing, distribution, to the shot itself, milk steaming and the pour...and there it is. Everything is a little better. Now I’m going to try to catch up on my homework 📚 this M.S. in Environmental Policy won’t earn itself. ☕️✌🏿G’night.
We’re $2,610 up on our goal of $5,000!!!! Help us get better equipment, so that our coffee can be even more amazing!!! Also, we’re roasting and giving away a FREE sample of Brazil (Paubrasil) Natural TOMORROW!!! Just a little info: Paubrasil is transparently certified as part of the Regiao Cerrado Mineiro Designation of Origin program. Traceable to its origin/farm where it’s grown! To enter, just like and share this post and we’ll pick one person to get the first taste of this bean!
Just a reminder that while this is a “specialty coffee” initiative/company, we never want to forget where we gain our inspiration from and what we strive towards STILL; Education in the African American cultural sense. Though we, my wife/co-owner & I both are currently studying at predominantly white institutions, our beginnings and our hearts belong to HBCU culture. So along with dope coffee content, for the duration, we’ll be sharing part or pieces of the African American experience & pursuit of education, some of the institutions we’ve loss and ones we hold dear that are still here! Pictured are Harbison Agricultural College students, Class of 1916. Harbison was a school for African-Americans founded by the Presbyterian Church in the area north of Columbia to train young men to be better farmers. The Harbison area is still there and is completely gentrified, thriving with businesses, including the Colombiana Mall, just off of Harbison Blvd, not too far from Irmo, SC. But we no longer have Harbison Ag College.
Slightly sipped 😋... I’m on this kick to prove that @a2milkusa is the best milk to steam for those who want MILK MILK, and not ALT MILK. They’re definitely not paying me to say this... I’m just saying my doggie, this milk is saucy!
You might ask hey Steve! Tash! What would I get from THIS batch of 16th & Locust??? We’d say “We’ll, it’s got hot cocoa mix aroma off of the grind, delicately winey 🍷 , slightly sweet and floral. It’s got a semi-syrupy body as an Aeropress and milk chocolate mouthfeel as an espresso. If you’re super ill about TDS and shit, get happy! This blended bean is good for trying out weirdo, sciency stuff on a refractometer lol!” #tastethat
16th & Locust will be loaded tonight! The coffees are completely different, but they definitely work well together! 50% Brazil Cerrado-Natural(mundo novo, catuaí, bourbon) & 50% Ethiopia-(Gedeo Zone)Natural, likely a regional landrace coffee that originally selected from forests and propagated. Kudhumi(Kurume), Dega and Wolisho(Walichu)are probable coffees here.
We’re at 50%+ towards the goal!! Let’s bring it on in!! New roaster! Better coffee! More & Faster production! Happier cups!😎☕️
Dear Specialty Coffee, Let me tell you why I love this industry.... Because of the people! The coffee is DOPE, but the people who we get to serve, ship to, talk to and share life with means everything. It’s so cliché, but relationships are so hard to come by in other areas of life. But here? It’s through & by a drink, the smells, the processes of preparing it, the unforgettable sound of a #malkhonig grinder, or the clinking & clanking of cups and saucers. The smile behind the glasses of the barista as you step up, and sometimes the cold shoulder that you get to try to get warmed up to your hue. To your presumed sexuality, your social status... Yep, the struggle and marginalization within specialty coffee is ever present. But it’s not worth walking away from the industry. That’s why we protest, we have REAL conversation, people listen and then decide to ACT! We come together or we keep having the conversations, we keep telling you how we feel and we continue to serve PEOPLE. Gotta get the shit together, because we deserve to feel awesome while serving. People deserve to feel like a WHOLE PERSON while serving. We need to feel and Know y’all got our backs if someone outside & within this industry steps outta line. We do it for y’all! But it’s gotta be reciprocated. We stand up for your brands by wearing em everyday. Just to get shitted on. But WE ALL are gonna get this right damn together! And PUSH FORWARD!!!!
